Crocs has initiated a retail takeback pilot program, aimed at enhancing its sustainability and circular economy efforts. The program encourages shoppers to bring their old Crocs shoes to select stores in ten states across the country, regardless of their condition.

The company plans to repurpose the donated shoes through partnerships and will work towards a sustainable next use for each pair. From October 27, consumers can bring old Crocs shoes back to stores in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Plans for the repurposed shoes include donations to Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization that works with external partners to create local jobs. Crocs that are too damaged to be worn will have their materials upcycled into new shoes, the company said.

Every participating store will be equipped with a dedicated collection box for old shoes and participants can receive a free, limited-edition "Crocs Saver" Jibbitz™charm as a donation prize.

“We're excited to take this next step on our path toward innovating for a circular economy and a better future for footwear,” shared Deanna Bratter, vice president, global head of sustainability at Crocs. “This pilot program aims to address both environmental and social challenges faced by the fashion industry when it comes to product waste. Together with our fans, we can unlock innovation and partnerships to effectively reduce waste, reuse our materials, keep shoes out of landfills, and help people in need.”
