NRF Big Show 2011: The Retail Century

12/6/2010
IS NEW YORK CITY THE CENTER OF RETAILING? CHICAGO AND BOSTON ARE GREAT RETAILING TOWNS, AND LAS VEGAS HAS BECOME A MAGNET FOR GLITZY FLAGSHIP STORES.

But New York, thanks to Times Square, 5th Avenue and Soho, has been bigger and better for so long it is in a class by itself. Especially during mid-January when it hosts the NRF Annual Convention & Expo, otherwise known as the Big Show.

Mid-January is an ideal post-holiday time for the retail industry to gather in NYC. Even the frigid weather has become something of a badge of courage for retailers accustomed to living in warmer climates.

The good news for this year’s event, the 100th NRF Annual Conference and Expo, is that two of the most celebrated of last year’s events will return – RetailROI Super Saturday and RIS Rock & Roll Retail. Both had their debuts last year and played to large crowds. This year they will be back and will be bigger and better.

RetailROI Super Saturday, which raises money for the Retail Orphan Initiative, and RIS Rock & Roll Retail were WOW factors in 2010 and helped transform hard, cold NYC into a warm, bonding experience.

You can read more about these events later in this special section, but if you want to be a part of either of them you will need to get onto the attendee list in advance. The week of the Big Show tickets to both of these events will be highly sought after and hard to come by.

NRF packs the Big Show with Super Sessions featuring renowned business and industry experts on the main stage. It also presents Big Ideas Sessions and Breakout Sessions, plus a number of networking receptions beyond the Javits Center.

This special section is an effort to help you make the most of your time at the 2011 Big Show. To pull it together RIS dug deep into the agenda and contacted a number of Big Show veterans around the industry. You can get comprehensive information about the Big Show by visiting www.nrf.com.
But if you want to maximize your time while in New York and focus on things that will give you the most bang for your time-investment buck, then read this special section of highlights you won’t want to miss.

As we slowly emerge from the worst recession in generations the timing for the 2011 Big Show couldn’t be better. The busy holiday season will be over, a new year will have begun, and plans will be taking shape for launching new ideas, new technologies and new strategies for growth.

It may be cold in January, but now that we can see light shining at the end of a long tunnel this could be one of the warmest, most anticipated Big Shows in years. See you in New York!
