VeriFone Holdings is rolling out a payment system in New York City taxis as part of the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission's effort to upgrade all of the city's 13,000 taxicabs with payment and information systems. The VeriFone-based system utilizes wireless technology to provide card swipe and contactless payment for credit and debit payment. The system also features a 10.4-inch touch-screen monitor that provides news from WABC-TV New York, sports from ESPN and local information from Zagat Survey.
